Nominate to celebrate our care and support heroes

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Recognition

New Year Honours list 2016 – nominations close 9 March 2015

If you want to find a rich concentration of the great and the good – of individuals whose compassion, empathy and sheer hard work deserve the highest recognition – you could do far worse than look to the care and support sector. Here you will find no shortage of candidates whose dedication and desire to improve the lives of others goes beyond their job description or personal obligations.

So, for the New Year Honours list 2016 who do you know is deserving of praise in this latest round of nominations? Is it the organiser of your local dementia café? The GP working with care services to help people live at home for longer? The brave person talking to schools about their mental health problems in the battle to eradicate stigma? Or is there a colleague in this department or in your own organisation who has demonstrated leadership and resolve from the top to change lives for the better?

'Last year’s list of successful nominees from the health and care sector included policy officer Zubeda Seedat for services to public health. She is now a Member of the British Empire and one of many from the health and care sector honoured last year.
'Last year’s list of successful nominees... included DH policy officer Zubeda Seedat for services to public health. She is now a Member of the British Empire.'

As ever, nominations are sought at all levels and you’ll find the full submission guidance, including the official form, here.

Last year’s list of successful nominees from the health and care sector included our very own policy officer Zubeda Seedat for services to public health. She is now a Member of the British Empire and one of many from the health and care sector who were honoured last year.

We say this every year – and make no apology for the repetition - but women and people from black and ethnic communities remain under-represented in the roll call of the worthy. So, while Esther Rantzen’s work to protect children and the elderly from abuse was quite rightly recognised in the 2015 honours, there are plenty of men and women out there, without the benefit of celebrity, who none-the-less deserve their time in the limelight.

So, get thinking, get nominating and help make these honours a true reflection of the best the care and support sector has to offer.
